IPL is different from a laser, because while a laser uses a single wavelength, IPL uses a wide spectrum of pulsing wavelengths. This is how IPL treats so many different conditions in a single treatment.
The amount of treatments you need is dependent on the goals you wish to achieve. 2 - 3 treatments are typically recommended, each 6 - 8 weeks apart.
You can expect to have some redness for up to 72 hour post treatment. Some clients, usually those with significant pigmentation, experience flaking 3-5 days after the treatment.  And you need to plan to stay out of extended direct sunlight at least 2 weeks after your treatment. Â
One great part about the photofacial is that it can be used anywhere on the body. IPL is typically applied on the face and the decollete, but other areas are common as well, such as the arms or the back. Â
A photofacial is most often used on people with skin types 1 -3, clients with minimal pigment in their skin. For clients with darker skin, alternative treatments such as eMatrix or Clear and Brilliant would be ideal.
Like most treatments here at NIMA, the cost depends on the amount of treatments necessary to reach your goals. We will give you an initial estimate at your consultation, and will discuss the goals you are attempting to achieve. To get the best value on your treatments, we recommend considering a NIMA Membership.
